About Us

Lisa Salinger, PT, MS

Lisa has been a NYS licensed Physical Therapist since 1990. She received her bachelor's degree from Ithaca College's prestigious School of Health Science and Human Performance and her advanced master's degree from Long Island University.

She has trained extensively with John F. Barnes, PT, the leading authority on Myofascial Release. Lisa has been utilizing the John Barnes Myofascial Release Approach with her patients since 1994 and instructs with John F. Barnes at Myofascial Release Seminars nationwide.

Her own history of injuries from playing sports is what led her to become a Physical Therapist. A skiing accident that shredded her left knee resulted in reconstructive surgery and a year of rehab, effectively ending her aspiration of playing college sports. However it gave her a new direction and career purpose as a PT. Unfortunately, (or fortunately) this was not the only defining moment that changed the path of her career. Over the next few years, she sustained additional significant knee injuries, this time to her right knee. A volleyball injury and a horseback riding incident resulted in 2 more reconstructive surgeries. When all was said and done, Lisa had undergone more than 9 knee surgeries and had seemingly spent more time in PT as a patient than as a therapist. Ultimately, this experience of being on the other side of the therapeutic relationship has helped her to become a better therapist. It also helped her to realize the limitations of the traditional PT model and led her to pursue her training in Myofascial Release.

Lisa has over 15 years of experience working in hospital based in-patient rehab programs. She started her career at Helen Hayes Hospital where she gained extensive experience working with complex amputee, orthopedic, and neurological diagnoses. She then went on to be the Program Manager for a 24 bed multidisciplinary in-patient rehab unit at Southside Hospital. She held this position for 11 years before opening her private practice specializing in Myofascial Release in 2004. Lisa's ability to blend traditional physical therapy seamlessly with Myofascial Release and other holistic approaches allows her to treat each client as an individual in a manner that is nurturing, safe, and highly effective.

She continues to teach and serve as a resource for other therapists and clients throughout the tri-state area. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and her 3 rescue kitties- Dakota, Cheyenne, and Shadow.
